According to AS, Real Madrid are keen on securing the services of Lyon left-back Ferland Mendy this summer, as manager Zinedine Zidane looks to get a replacement and competition for Marcelo.

The Frenchman isn’t convinced Academy Graduate Reguilon has what it takes to challenge or succeed the Brazilian, and will send him out on loan next season in order not to hinder his progress.

Madrid are willing to spend £44million on the signature of Mendy, but they will surely be facing stiff competition to land him after his performances in 2018-19 caught the eyes of lots of clubs across Europe.

The 23-year-old has played a huge role as Lyon look set to finish the campaign in third place, scoring three goals and setting up another three in 42 appearances, and he has all it takes to give Marcelo a run for the money.

Despite managing three goals and three assists in 30 games across all competitions, the 31-year-old was unimpressive during what was a dismal campaign for Madrid, and Zidane is hoping Mendy’s arrival will push him to his best form once more.
